National Philanthropy | Domestic Violence Awareness

Click here if you would like to donate directly to Epsilon Zeta! Donations benefit the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Opelika, AL.
As an Alpha Chi Omega of the Epsilon Zeta chapter, the passion and commitment we constantly pour out into our national philanthropy of Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention is abundant. On a local level, our chapter helps to financially support the Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Opelika, our neighboring town. As a chapter, we are dedicated to raising awareness on the issues of domestic violence by educating both our members and students on Auburn’s campus about what to look out for, and by giving to the survivors and victims at the DVIC.

Every year our chapter puts in countless hours of selfless work to raise money and awareness for this amazing philanthropy. To start off the year we have a Candlelight Vigil where we recognize those who have lost their lives due to domestic violence. It is a night where we can come together as sisters and really see a physical example of how many people domestic violence impacts. As we watch the balloons float into the sky, we are reminded as a chapter of what our hard work goes toward, encouraging us to put our whole hears into it for the rest of the year.
Later in the year we have the These Hands Don’t Hurt Campaign where we ask students on Auburn’s campus to sign a pledge against domestic violence and sexual assault. This is a neat thing we do because it not only brings a touchy issue to surface level as it’s broadcasted on the concourse, but it brings comfort to students who have been directly affected by this issue when they see how many people are pledging against it.
Scattered throughout the year we have two of our newest philanthropy events, Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi and Walk-A-Mile. Pizza Pie with Alpha Chi, located in the AXO chapter room, gives everyone the chance to support our philanthropy by purchasing a ticket to have unlimited pizza. Walk-A-Mile helps support the DVIC by asking guys to sign up in teams and participate in multiple relay races while wearing high heals.

Our chapter couldn’t be more proud to help support this incredible cause, not only because domestic violence affects one in four women, but also because rescuing victims of domestic violence and raising awareness for it resonates with our goal of molding our chapter members into real, strong women. I think what really hits home with Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention being our philanthropy is that you never know who it’s going to affect, and with that comes great responsibility and an overwhelming sense of community.
